Service & Support Because equipment represents a major capital investment, it is important that the supplier and service and maintenance companies are financially viable so they can offer continued support. If these providers do run into problems, the BDTA is there to help. It is also important to use companies who can provide the right level of service to minimise surgery downtime, and who have the backing of manufacturers so they can obtain spare parts. Many manufacturers will only supply replacement parts to accredited engineers who have been properly trained to deal with their equipment. As a professional highly skilled with your hands there may be a temptation for you to do your own servicing and maintenance, but there is a legal responsibility for you to use equipment that is fit for purpose and properly maintained. Service engineers are highly trained specialists, with the correct testing equipment and tools and proper liability insurance. We live in an increasingly litigious society, and the risk of problems in this area can be eliminated. |
