BDTA Staff pass the BDTA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry course

The BDTA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry is a course aimed at equipping students with a general understanding of the dental industry and the work of the dental team.  The course offers coverage of a wide array of topics, ranging from dental anatomy, oral diseases, laboratory procedures, the regulatory framework in the UK plus anaesthesia and infection control in dentistry.  The BDTA’s Code of Practice requires that, as a minimum, all the relevant staff within a member company should have attained the BDTA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry within two years of commencing employment, and this rule also applies to the staff at the BDTA.

So, the latest additions to the BDTA team, Joanne Close, Maggie Wan and Darran Lacey, were enrolled onto the BDTA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry course at the start of 2008.  And after seven weeks of home study, weekly revision sessions and attendance at the Revision Seminar led by Terry Abbott of Henry Schein, the trio’s initial dread about sitting an exam on an unfamiliar subject was replaced with a new confidence.

The 2 hour-long exam was taken on 26 February and everyone passed successfully – two members of the team attained an impressive ‘distinction’.  When asked how he felt about the exam, Darran commented “without the revision seminar, I would not have stood a chance”.  Maggie agreed and felt that the revision seminar was enormously helpful at clarifying the information and consolidating her knowledge. For Joanne, the knowledge gained is proving extremely useful both in her interaction with the public and with members.
