The BDTA is proud to be supporting the Department of Health’s (DoH) Change4Life (C4L) initiative through a campaign which promotes the benefits of a healthy mouth to overall good health and ultimately encourages families to continue to visit the dentist.

Warren Greshes, international motivational speaker and author of ‘The Best Damn Sales Book Ever’ impressed delegates at the recent International Symposium on Dental Hygiene at the SECC in Scotland.  The event was organised by the International Federation of Dental Hygienists and the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy.

The BDTA has recently established a partnership with the British Association of Removers (BAR).

The UAE International Dental Conference & Arab Dental Exhibition (AEEDC) took place in Dubai between 9 & 11 March 2010 and provided the perfect opportunity for the newly re-formed BDTA Export Group to exhibit in that region. The exhibition has been running for 13 years and continues to receive high praise from exhibitors and visitors alike. Attendees fly in from all over the world, with last year’s exhibition boasting 20,000 professional visitors from 113 countries. For UK exporters, taking a stand at the exhibition provides an excellent opportunity to expand into the Gulf and Middle Eastern markets and build new relationships.

Following the success of the event last year, the BDTA is delighted to announce that it is hosting another Go Karting experience in 2010. The high speed, outdoor, summer social networking event will be held on Saturday 15 May 2010 and is designed to widen engagement with the Association amongst individuals at all levels within member company organisations.

GDPUK (www.gdpuk.com), the UK’s most popular website for dentists wanting to share opinions and information, has recently added a dental exhibition review section to its site called Dental Show Reviews.

In 2008, the BDTA Council took the decision to review and strengthen the BDTA Code of Practice to update the existing code to conform to current legislation, to improve the transparency and fairness of the code, to raise standards within the membership and to maintain a robust system of self regulation.

A recent survey conducted by the British Association for Dental Nurses (BADN) revealed that many dental nurses have the authority to make purchases for the dental practice and frequently use their own judgement to decide on the choice of products.

Research conducted by the BDTA amongst its members at the end of 2009 has revealed that more than 65% of members believe the BDTA is meeting its key objectives very/quite well.

The BDTA’s recent research project investigating dentists’ attitudes towards innovation and training has revealed that peer recommendation remains the main factor motivating the purchase of new technology. 66% of respondents stated peer recommendation as a major factor, closely followed by lectures/seminars, selected by 61% of respondents.

The BDTA award for outstanding contribution to the dental industry was presented to Martin Mills, Managing Director of The Dental Directory at the BDA Honours and Awards Dinner, which took place on 26 November 2009 in London.

The BDTA is pleased to announce that the latest copy of Spotlight, the annual statistical publication compiled for members of The British Dental Trade Association, is now available to BDTA members.

The BDTA was shortlisted as one of the finalists in the 2009 Trade Association Forum Best Practice Awards, for the Exhibition of the Year Award category.

The BDTA’s entry for Dental Showcase focused on the substantial increase in visitor numbers, the commercial benefits presented to exhibitors and BDTA members and the new features introduced to Showcase to add value for all involved. The submission was ‘highly commended’ and a particular mention was given to the exceptional visitor numbers at the event in 2008.

Eleven teams and supporters amounting to some 70 individuals from the dental trade gathered at the Birmingham Wheels circuit on Saturday 11 July 2009 to take part in an exhilarating go-karting challenge. The aim was to encourage individuals from within member companies who do not attend existing BDTA events to get involved and build a connection with the Association.

We regret to announce that Dennis Carroll succumbed to his illness and passed away on 10 June 2009.

Dennis, formerly General Manager at 3M Espe, was well known and respected throughout the dental industry in both the UK and Europe. He was a very active member of the dental trade, influencing the careers of many and will be greatly missed.

Dennis became BDTA President in 1993 and served two consecutive terms of office followed by ten dedicated years as a Council member…

This year the BDTA Annual Conference was held in the stunning World Heritage City of Bath on 28–29 May 2009. Over 120 people travelled to the elegantly furnished Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel for the two day event.

The main conference sessions began on Friday and BDTA President Simon Gambold kicked started the day’s programme with an update on the Association’s performance in the past 12 months…

Amidst the hype of the Parliamentary Elections taking place across Europe on 4 June, the BDTA held its own ballot to elect and appoint members of its council.

The AGM held on 28 May 2009 at the Association’s Annual Conference in Bath saw the election of two new councillors, the re-election of an existing council member and the appointment of the next BDTA President and Vice-President.
