Terry Abbott wins BDTA Award 2011
Jan 13, 2012
Terry Abbott from Henry Schein was selected as the winner of the prestigious British Dental Trade Association award for outstanding contribution to the dental industry.

Unfortunately due to poor health, he was not able to attend the BDA Honours and Awards Dinner on 24 November 2011 at the Chancery Court Hotel, London. The award was accepted by Simon Gambold, from Henry Schein, on his behalf.

Terry has had a long and distinguished career in dentistry that began in The Royal Army Dental Corps over 50 years ago, where he rose from dental technician, dental hygienist and dental therapist to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major. Upon leaving the army, Terry worked in various commercial roles at Dentsply before joining Henry Schein in January 1994, initially as National Field Sales Manager and then the UK Training & Development Manager in 2001.

Terry was Chairman of the BDTA Training Committee, a position that he held until his retirement in August 2011. Over the years, he contributed tremendously to the BDTA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry - the training course that helped educate many members of the dental trade on the basics of dentistry. Terry also produced and delivered numerous other training courses throughout the UK, including the BDTA Revision Seminar, Pharmacovigilance Training Programme for all customer facing staff and Personal Development. His delivery is always excellent and brings the subject of dentistry to life, removing the anxiety of those who are new to the business and instead making learning about dentistry a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

If you know someone who deserves recognition for his or her contribution to the dental industry, please contact maggiewan@bdta.org.uk regarding nomination submissions for the 2012 BDTA award.
